Gladys Brown Services Held

Gladys M. Brown was born November 18, 1906, in Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Eda M. Watkins Cone. She passed away Saturday, February 2, 1991, at the Long Term Care Unit of Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, Iowa, having attained the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 15 days.

Gladys grew up and was educated in Grundy County, graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1925. Following graduation, Gladys taught country school. On October 5, 1929, she was united in marriage to Clarence Brown in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Gladys and Clarence farmed for many years in Grundy County.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, serving on many church committees over the years.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence on February 20, 1987; one grandson: James Patrick Brown; and by two brothers; Glenn and Floyd Cone.

Survivors include one son, Dale and wife Colleen Brown of Grundy Center; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Elwood Cone of Grundy Center, and William Cone of Fort Dodge.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 5, 1991, at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. Rev. David and Rev. Laura Stellmon officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
