Rites Held For Harold Lynch

Harold Herbert Lynch was born February 7, 1916, in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of Herbert W. and Amelia Miller Lynch. He passed away Tuesday, January 29, 1991, at his home in Grundy Center, Iowa, having attained the age of 74 years, 11 months, and 22 days.

Harold grew up and was educated in Grundy County, graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1934. He was employed for a time at Heinie Implement in Grundy Center. On January 21, 1939, he was united in marriage to Adeline Price in Grundy Center. Harold moved to the farm in 1940 and farmed in Grundy County until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting, fishing, making things in his shop, and trying to improve things. Adeline passed away on June 5, 1980. Harold was married to Lucy "Lou" Horbach on June 9, 1982, in Grundy Center, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his first wife, Adeline.

Survivors include his wife Lou of Grundy Center; two sons: James and Richard, both of Grundy Center; two daughters: Linda Lynch of Waterloo, and Jill Lynch of Meadville, PA; two step-daughters: Neoma Ruebel of Akron, Ohio, and Donna Schlemmer of Grundy Center; and one step-son, Ron Horbach of Garland, TX; two step-brothers: Gerald Strickler and Donald Strickler, both of Grundy Center, two sisters: Katherine Slater of Grundy Center, and Ethel (Mrs. Jiles) Eslinger of Reinbeck; 5 grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and 18 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 1, 1991, at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grundy Center at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Everett Frese officiated.

Susan Bies was the organist. Soloist, Liz Wilson, sang "On Eagle's Wings." Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Strickler sang "Amazing Grace."

The casket bearers were Paul Schreck, Dave Strickler, John Schlemmer, Dennis G. Peters, Toby Huisman and Dean Eslinger. Honorary bearers were Joe Wical, Naaman Haren, Jim Cox, Erwin Haren, Howard Davis and Ralph Huisman.

Tom Lang and George Lang served as ushers. Lois Davis, Virginia Huisman, Marcella High and Mary Ellen Stock were on the floral committee.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of professional arrangements.
