Rites Held For Wayne Newton

Wayne D. Newton, 79, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday, January 18, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Services were held Monday, January 21, at 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, with Rev. D. Ward Young officiating.

Pall bearers were Terry Newton, Bryan Newton, Gary Creery, Mark Creery, Mark Hasek, and Roger Bockes. Honorary bearers were Brandon Newton, Megan Creery, and Taylor Creery.

Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, in Grundy Center.

Wayne was born on December 10, 1911, to Samuel and Elva Diamond Newton in Grundy County. Wayne was raised and attended schools in Grundy County.

He was united in marriage to Irene Pabst in Osage, on June 1, 1937. They farmed in Grundy County for 54 years before retiring in 1976. He was also employed as a sales representative for Northrup King Seed Corn Company. Wayne worked for the Grundy and Hardin County ASCS for several years too.

Wayne was a member of the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Clarence, of El Cajon, CA.

He is survived by his wife Irene; one son, Terry, of Marshalltown; one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Janice) Creery, of Grundy Center; four grandchildren, Mark Creery, of Ames, Bryan and Brandon Newton, of Marshalltown, and Kristi Creery Hasek, of Webster City; and two great-grandchildren, Megan and Taylor Creery.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
