Services For Lester Rieken

Lester D. Rieken, 76, of Wellsburg, passed away January 2, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Services were held January 5, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Peters United Church of Christ, in rural Wellsburg. The Rev. Ronald Fisher officiated the service.

Casket bearers were Ronald Rieken, Glenn Boheman, Thomas Boelman, James Bartling, Fred Vanderwerf, and Mark DeBoer.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Lester, the son of Dick and Martha Lindaman Rieken, was born at the home farm north of Wellsburg, on April 7, 1914. He grew up and attended schools in the Wellsburg area.

He was united in marriage to Esther Louise Kappel on November 18, 1944, at St. Peter's United Church, in rural Wellsburg.

Mr. Rieken was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, where he was a past President of the church board as well as, an Elder and Deacon.

Lster was known for his patient ways, and willingness to lend a needed hand. He enjoyed the company of his granddaughters, whom he spent time with each day.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Henry and Raymond.

He is survived by his wife, Esther; one son Duane, and his wife Toni; one sister, Ellen Riebkes, and his three granddaughters, Annesley, Jen, and Tara.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Doyen-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
