John A. Cone Died Here At Age 92

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 24, 1970 at the Ferree-Abbas Funeral Home for John Albert Cone, 92, who passed away at the Countryside Nursing Home Wednesday, Jan. 21, of complications of advanced age. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Rev. John L. Lewis, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated. Casket bearers were Marvin, Gerald and Steven Schafer, Lawrence and Larry Watkins and Dean Zimple.

Mr. Cone was born April 4, 1877 in Tama County just south of Traer, Iowa. He was the son of Oscar Eugene Cone and Julia McClung Cone. On February 21, 1900 he was united in marriage to Eda Madora Watkins and to this union four sons and one daughter were born.

John was a farm owner and farmed until 1930. At this time he and his family moved from the farm in Palermo township to Grundy Center where he did carpenter and plumbing work.

Mr. Cone lived with his daughter since 1957. He had been living at the Countryside Nursing Home the past five weeks, and previously had been a patient at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Preceding him in death were his wife and parents, two brothers, one sister and one grandson.

Those left to mourn his passing are four sons: Floyd N. of Independence, Iowa, William E. of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Glenn W. and J. Elwood, both of Grundy Center and their wives, and one daughter Gladys M. and husband Clarence Brown of Grundy Center; one brother, A. A. Cone of Perris, California, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and several other relatives.
