Services Friday For Mrs. Reka Groninga

Services were held at Westfriesland Presbyterian Church, Ackley, Iowa, Friday, January 23rd for Reka Groninga, who passed away while at home January 20th.

Burial was in the Westfriesland cemetery. Pastor Kenneth A. Remer was in charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Haje Hayenga, Peter Hayenga, Klaas Brass, Ted Schulte, Egbert Vietor and Gerald Janssen. Ushers were Jake DeVries and Virgil Janssen. Organist, Mrs. Lester Neymeyer; singers were Ray Kreimeyer, John V. Janssen, Jans Hausman, Rev. K. Remer. The flower committee were Mrs. Gerald Janssen and Mrs. John ?.

Reka Hayenga was born April 12, 1882, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heye Hayenga, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy County.

On February 27, 1906, she and Klaus G. Groninga were united in marriage at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian Church. Except for and first four years they spent all of their lives on the present farm home near Ackley, in Butler County. After they had moved to their present home both Mr. and Mrs. Groninga became members of the Westfriesland Presbyterian Church on July 14, 1912.

After a brief illness of a few months, Reka Groninga passed away while at home on January 20. She lived to the age of 87 years, 9 months and 8 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Klaus in 1962; 2 sons: Kenneth in 1942, and Vernon Cecil in infancy; and 8 brothers, and sisters. She is survived by her 2 sons: Vernon of Ackley, and Vincent at home; 3 grandchildren: Kenneth of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sheryl of Evergreen, Colorado and Steven of Ackley; 4 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dena Hayenga of Baldwin Park, Calif.
