Elmer Kessler Dies Sunday Morning At Local Hospital
Funeral services for J. Elmer Kessler, 63, of Grundy Center, were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gene Straatmeyer officiating. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery at Dike.
Mr. Kessler died Sunday morning at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient for one day.
John Elmer Kessler was born April 14, 1906, at Willow Lake, S. Dak., the son of William H. and Engelina Kessler. The family lived in the Holland vicinity many years.
On May 28, 1932, he was married to Elsie Lubbert at Grundy Center. The couple lived in various towns in the area. Mr. Kessler was a mechanic.
Mr. and Mrs. Kessler moved to Grundy Center in 1962, where he was employed by Schulz Shell Service.
He is survived by his widow; one daughter, Mrs. Sharon Jones of Grundy Center; one son, Jerry, of Parkersburg; two brothers, George of Grundy Center and Leroy of Independence; and three sisters, Dorothea, Mrs. Carl J. Witte of Parkersburg, Wilma, Mrs. Fred Kalkwarf of Parkersburg, and Evangeline, Mrs. Tony Sinke of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, three brothers, and two children in infancy.
Casket bearers were Merlyn Witte, Lawrence Bottema, John Bottema, Gary Card, Larry Card and Millard Moats.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Gene Straatmeyer, accompanied by Mrs. Hiram Dieken.
Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home of Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
