Services For Laine Davis Held Here

Fourteen-year-old Laine L. Davis has lost his longtime battle with the crippling disease, Muscular Dystrophy.

Laine passed away at Covenant Medical Center on Kimball Avenue in Waterloo on Sunday. He was 14 years, 7 months and 14 days old at the time of his untimely death.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center with Pastor D. Ward Young officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Casket bearers were Ron Saak, Gary Saak, Curt Plaehn, Dan Olsen, Larry Flater and Ron Lennard. Marlyn Peters, Mike Owen, and Bob Chabal were ushers, and Mrs. Shirley Peters and Mrs. Frances Sievert were flower attendants.

Laine, the son of Kim and Bonnie Foxworthy Davis, attended Grundy Center schools through the eighth grade and had a private tutor for one year.

He was a confirmed member of the United Methodist church and belonged to the United Methodist Young Fellowship.

He was an avid collector and enjoyed his collections of baseball cards, stamps, coins, stickers and clowns.

Laine loved people, and will always be remembered for his ever-present smile. He was a living reminder of the ravages of Muscular Dystrophy, and cheerfully participated each year in the community's successful Labor Day weekend MD fund drive.

He is survived by his parents; one brother, Shane, at home; paternal grandparents, Roger and Donna Davis of Cedar Falls; maternal grandparents, Herold Foxworthy of Dike and Robert and Barbara Brown of Grundy Center; paternal great-grandparents, Emma Davis, Marshalltown, and G.C. and Mildred Decker of Baxter; and maternal great-grandmother, Inez Johnson, Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.
