G. Fonken Rites On Wednesday

Grace Fonken, 86, of Grundy Center, passed away Saturday, November 18, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 22, at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, with burial in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Grace Fonken Services Held

Grace Fonken, 86, passed away Saturday, November 18, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center on Wednesday, November 22, at 10 a.m. Pastor D. Ward Young officiated.

Merle Mamminga sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross." He was accompanied by Mrs. Marcia Heronimus, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Donald Palmer and Marlyn Peters were ushers. Mrs. Shirley Peters and Mrs. Eileen Schultz were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Grace Christine Fonken, the daughter of Edward and Dena Muhring Kluver, was born August 1, 1903, in Grundy county. At age six, she moved to Floyd county with her family, and then to Tama county for three years. She then moved back to Grundy Center and attended school through the 11th grade. She attended to her ill father for several years.

On March 5, 1924, Grace was united in marriage to Walter W. Fonken in Marshalltown. After their marriage, Grace and Walter owned and operated Walters Oil Company in Grundy Center with the help of their son Wayne.

Grace was preceded in death by her husband Walter on April 29; her parents; three sisters; and one brother.

She is survived by one son, Wayne and his wife Betty, of Carbondale, CO; and four grandchildren: Beth, John, Jeffrey and Wendy.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
