Virgil Nielsen Services Held

Virgil Nielsen, 79, of Dike, passed away on Thursday, August 24, at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were held at the Fredsville Lutheran Church, rural Cedar Falls, on Monday, August 28, at 2 p.m. Pastor Don Benson officiated.

Mrs. Bob Johnson sang "One Day At A Time," and "Our Father Has A Light In His Window." The accompanist was Mrs. Stephen Veatch, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Leonard Posekany, Elvin Sloth, Lynn Engel, W. W. Parker, Richard Schmidt and Pete Badje.

Ushers were Neal Thuesen and Arlan Andersen. Mrs. Roger Petersen and Mrs. Lois Bruns were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Fredsville Cemetery.

Virgil W. Nielsen was born July 21, 1910, in Fairfield township, Grundy county, the son of John Taylor and Carrie Petersen Nielsen. He grew up in Fairfield township and attended country school in Fairfield #7 and also the Dike High School.

On June 21, 1937, Virgil was united in marriage to Genevieve Damm at the Dike United Methodist Church parsonage by Rev. R. C. Scott. They lived most of their married life in Cedar Falls and Dike. Virgil worked 25 years for Clay Equipment in Cedar Falls, retiring when he was 65 years of age.

He was a longtime member of the Fredsville Lutheran Church.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Harriet Parker.

He is survived by his wife Genevieve, of Dike; one daughter and son-in-law Judith and Ronald Adams, Minneapolis, MN; one son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Deborah Nielsen, Santa Ana, CA; five grandchildren Jaime and Steven Adams, Collyn Nielsen, and Andrea and Laura Ellison; one brother Elmer Nielsen, Cedar Falls; and four sisters Mrs. Hazel Schmidt, Bensenville, IL, Mrs. Lynn (Iva) Engel, Cedar Falls, Mrs. Elvin (Mildred) Sloth, Dike, and Mrs. Leonard (Carol) Posekany, rural Reinbeck.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
