Rites Held For Jennie Venenga

Jennie Venenga, 93, of Grundy Center, passed away Wednesday, July 26, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center, where she had been a resident since December of 1988.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Friday, July 28, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Calvin Vanderwerf of the Bethany Presbyterian Church officiated.

Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Keith Venenga, Jerry Venenga, Jack Stickfort, Arnold Saathoff, Frank Makinster, Dale Venenga, and Dana Venenga.

Martha Saathoff and Linda Cuvelier were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center. The Rev. Larry Engle officiated at the committal services.

Jennie Venenga was born August 21, 1895, on a farm southwest of Grundy Center. She was the daughter of Peter E. and Sophia Bleeker Muhring. She grew up and attended country school. When she was 18 years old, she was one of the first employees of the Bell Telephone Company to work in Grundy Center.

On November 26, 1914, Jennie was united in marriage to Harm Venenga in Grundy Center. They farmed in the area until 1934, when they moved and made their home in Grundy Center.

Harm passed away on September 10, 1957. After his death, Jennie worked from 1958 to 1972 at the Saunder's Nursing Home in Grundy Center.

Jennie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant sister, three sisters, one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

She is survived by two sons, Roy, of rural New Hartford, and Robert, of Grundy Center; three daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Eshter) Kliege, rural Dike, Mrs. Frank (Thelma) Makinster, Cedar Rapids, and Myrtle Venenga of Grundy Center; one brother, Harm Muhring, Grundy Center; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Siemsen and Mrs. Laura Lines, both of Grundy Center; 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
