Services Held For Orville Mills
Orville Mills, 74, passed away on Thursday, March 23, at his home in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Saturday, March 25, at 10 a.m. Pastor D. Ward Young of the United Methodist Church, officiated.
Taped musical selections were played for the prelude and postlude.
Casket bearers were Gary Smith, Lloyd Harmsen, Judd Lyons, Tim Wolthoff, Bob Amfahr, and Edward Mills.
Mrs. Lloyd Harmsen and Mrs. Judd Lyons were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Orville W. Mills was born August 15, 1914, at Kellogg. He was the son of Jesse and Harriett Ellis Mills. Orville grew up in Kellogg and attended Kellogg Public School. He worked for his father after school on the family farm.
In 1942, he went into the Army Air Corps, until his discharge in 1945. After his military duty, he worked for several John Deere Implement stores in Grundy Center, Dows, Dubuque, and Toledo.
On September 1, 1951, Orville was united in marriage to Josie Bownes, in Maryville, MO.
After the implement business, he worked for Fisher Control in Marshalltown, for several years. In 1975, he moved to Grundy Center, and in 1979, he retired from Fisher's.
Orville was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Tama, and also a member of the United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Arthur; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife, Josie, of Grundy Center; one daughter, Mrs. C. D. (Dot) Kendall, of Marshalltown; two grandchildren, Chad and Jamie; one brother, Lawrence, of Baxter; and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Geiter, of Grundy Center.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
