Rites Held For Etta Petersen
Mrs. Etta Petersen, 83, of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church, Grundy Center, on Saturday, March 18, at 2 p.m. Pastor Gary Candlish officiated the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Strickler sang "His Eye Is On The Sparrow," and "It Is Well With My Soul." The accompanist was Mrs. Dean Maddux, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Casket bearers were Harlan Johnson, Arthur Johnson, Robert Johnson, Gale Maddux, Dean Maddux, and Jim Freed.
Ushers were Harvey Mackie and Bill Stephenson. Mrs. Willis Grimmius and Sara Lee Yoder were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Mrs. Etta Petersen was born May 10, 1905, on a farm near Stout. She was the daughter of Andrew and Helen Cirksena Reiter. Etta grew up on the family farm near Stout and attended country school and high school. She received her teacher's certificate and taught in the country school north of Fern, Beaver #6.
On November 14, 1928, Etta was united in marriage to Manna Petersen at her parents' home near Stout. After their marriage, they farmed the Petersen family farm in Lincoln township, until they retired and made their home in Grundy Center in the fall of 1981.
Etta's husband, Manna, passed away on May 12, 1984. After his death, she continued to live at 307 East I Ave., until she became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit on July 3, 1987.
She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Manna; one grandson, Dale Allen Petersen; and by one brother, Ubbe Reiter.
She is survived by one son, Arnold D. Petersen, of Houston, TX; two daughters, Mrs. John (Charlotte) Packer, Prior Lake, MN, and Mrs. Bruce (Cindy) Saari, of Plano, TX; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and by one sister, Mrs. Florence Janssen, of Parkersburg.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
