Services Held For Mervan Baughman

Mervan Baughman, 86, passed away at his home in Grundy Center on Friday, January 27.

Funeral services were held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, on Monday, January 30, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor D. Ward Young of the United Methodist Church officiated.

Merle Mamminga sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Beyond the Sunset." The accompanist was Mrs. Jack Stumberg, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Mrs. Sonja Wilhau and Mrs. Linda Bertram were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mervan H. Baughman was born February 21, 1902, in Grundy Center, the son of I. A. and Emma Hardie Baughman. He grew up in Grundy Center, and attended the high school there.

On August 31, 1921, Mervan was united in marriage to Anna C. Haren at Eldora. They farmed in the area, and from 1934 to 1936, ran the Jack Spratt Grocery Store in Grundy Center.

On March 1, 1937, they moved to a farm southwest of Grundy Center, where they lived until December of 1963, when they moved and made their home in Grundy Center. He continued to farm until he had his farm sale in January of 1970. While he was farming, he did a lot of custom farm work.

Mervan was a member of the United Methodist Church for 74 years, joining when he was 12 years old. He always enjoyed spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Harold Baughman; two sisters, Helen Wehrman Tull and Gladys M. Baughman; and by one granddaughter, Donna Rae Lynch.

He is survived by his wife, Anna, of Grundy Center; one daughter, Mrs. Ray (Lois) Lynch, of rural Grundy Center; one grandson, Gene V. Lynch, Salt Lake City, Utah; one granddaughter, Mrs. Paul (Sharon) Harberts, rural Grundy Center; and two great-granddaughters, Deirdre and Ann Lynch.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
