Rites Held For Tena Franken
Tena Annette Franken, 81, passed away Thursday, December 20, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, with the Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Tena was born on May 2, 1909, to Cornelious O. and Garelina Saathoff Dirks. She grew up and was educated in Grundy county.
Tena was united in marriage to Jake Franken in Grundy Center on February 6, 1929. Tena and Jake farmed in Grundy county until 1952, when they retired and moved to Holland. She later moved to Grundy Center, and became a resident of the Long Term Care Unit in September of 1988.
Mrs. Franken was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian church in Grundy Center for 64 years, where she served as deacon, and taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was an active member, and held several offices over the years in both the Bethany Presbyterian Women's group, and the Grundy County Cancer Society. She was a volunteer for the Hawkeye Valley Area Association on Aging (HVAAA), as well as a member of the Colfax Sunshine and Study Club. She enjoyed crocheting and other handiwork in her spare time.
Tena was preceded in death by her husband, Jake; her parents; one sister, Jennie Heerts, and one great-grandson, Daniel Moeller.
She is survived by one daughter, Jvonne, Mrs. Leon Moeller of Holland; 2 grandsons, James and Jerry Moeller of Holland; and five great-grandchildren, Bryan, Michael, Kevin, Lance, and Jennifer Moeller.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of professional arrangements.
