Rites Held For David Cathcart

David E. (Gene) Cathcart, 78, passed away Saturday, December 15, at Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Services were held on Wednesday, December 19, at the Dike Methodist Church in Dike, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. The Rev. Gary Armstrong officiated.

Pallbearers were Ralph Immings, Kurt Kelly, Vernon Cordes, Kenneth Murphy, Gale Gast, and Wallace Smith.

David (Gene) Cathcart, son of Willis and Grace Stover Cathcart, was born on February 10, 1912. Gene grew up and was educated in the Conrad area.

He was united in marriage on December 29, 1936, to Lois Marie Clemens in Waterloo. He farmed in Grundy until 1943 when he moved to Dike and went to work for the Farmers Co-op. He then went to work for John Deere in Waterloo until 1946. He worked at Standard Oil driving a tank wagon until retiring in 1973.

Mr. Cathcart, a past member of the City Council, and a volunteer fireman, was a member of the Dike Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Dike Odd Fellows.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Betty Voss; and one brother, Vern.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly J. Voss of Cedar Falls; two sons, Robert W. of Arkansas, and Richard D. of Wisconsin; three sisters, Eva Hubachek of Minnesota, Dorothey Tschopp, and Ruth Randall both of Marshalltown; one brother, Mike Cathcart of Gladbrook; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the professional arrangements.
