Rites Held For Floyd DeSeelhorst

Floyd Robert DeSeelhorst, 96, passed away Wednesday, December 12, at the Long Term Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.

Services were held on Friday, December 14, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Pastor Everett Frese officiated the services.

Floyd was born on a farm five miles west of Grundy Center on November 7, 1894, to George W. and Millie Brasted DeSeelhorst. He moved with his family in 1900 to a farm one mile west of Grundy Center. With the exception of a term in the Army during WWI, he remained in Grundy all his life.

After graduating from Grundy Center High School in 1912, he farmed with his father until 1926.

On July 15, 1926 he was united in marriage to Wava Mertz. They made their home on the family farm until they retired in 1960 and moved to Grundy Center.

Floyd was a member of the Farm Bureau, and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He also served on the Farmers Elevator board for several years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wava; two sisters, Vera Morrison and Mildred Diehl.

He is survived by six nephews and nieces; Elaine Morrison Green of Oregon, LaVaun Diehl of Minnesota, Douglas Diehl of California, Brian Mertz of Utah, and Don Mertz of Illinois.

A memorial fund has been established.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of arrangements.
