Henry Luiken Rites Friday

Henry Luiken, 88, of Grundy Center, passed away Monday, October 22, at the Extended Care Facility, Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 26, at Lincoln Center Christian Reformed church, rural Grundy Center, at 10:30 a.m.

Casket bearers will be Danny Zevala, Jim Luiken, Dick Rietema, Brad Muller, Chris Muller, and Todd Larson.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Friends may call at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center on Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and at the church on Friday one hour prior to services.

Henry Luiken, the son of Fritz and Reka List Luiken, was born August 31, 1902, in Newenhaus, Germany. He moved with his family at the age of seven to the United States. They settled in Grundy county, where Henry grew up and attended school.

On March 10, 1927, Henry was united in marriage to Anna Franken at the Colfax Center Church parsonage in rural Holland. They made their home in Grundy Center for three years and then farmed in Lincoln Township until retiring in 1967.

Henry was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his parents; one grandson; two brothers, Conrad and Richard; and one sister, Fannie Luiken.

Henry is survived by two sons, Floyd and wife Ethel of Grundy Center, Jerry of The Hague, Netherlands; two daughters, Annabell (Mrs. Frank) Shramek, Phelan, CA, and Ruth (Mrs. LaVera) Muller, Hampton; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, John, of Grundy Center; and two sisters, Louise Longshore, Ontario, CA, and Lida Luiken of Kingman, AZ.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center is in charge of the arrangements.
