John R. Wood Services Held
John Wood, 60, a lifetime resident of Conrad, passed away Thursday, October 4, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 7, at 3 p.m. at the Conrad United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Crow officiating.
Honorary casket bearers were Stanley Grimes, Wayne Sloat, Wallace Brindle, Verne Reece, Wayne Smith and Dale Callaway.
Casket bearers were Greg Shine, Brad Stevens, Leonard Transbarger, Doug Kruse, Lyle Gaston and Brian deSilva.
Burial was in the Conrad Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Conrad American Legion Post #681.
John R. Wood, son of Arthur M. and Lucile King Wood, was born April 16, 1930, in Marshalltown. He was a graduate of the Conrad High School, class of 1948.
John served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, 1951 to 1955.
On August 19, 1953, John was united in marriage to Betty Eggleston in the Conrad United Methodist Church.
John was a member of the Methodist Church in Conrad, the Conrad American Legion Post #681, and Grundy County Voiture #171-40 & 8.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Ray.
Surviving are his wife, Betty, of Conrad; one son, James R. Wood, Wayside, WI; two daughters, Sarah J., Mrs. Randy Clark, Topeka, KS, and Elizabeth A., Mrs. Dennis Reese, Iowa City; two grandchildren; one sister, Barbara McMartin, of Beaman; and one brother, William Wood, of Waverly.
The Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
