Rites Held For Robert Dalzell

Robert "Bob" Dalzell, 72, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, August 21, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, after suffering a heart attack.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 25, at 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton, with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Robert J. Dalzell, son of James G. and Ruth E. Williamson Dalzell, was born April 10 in Grundy Center. He graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1936. Bob attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, and graduated from Logan Basic College of Chiropractic at St. Louis, MO. He received a teaching degree from Minnesota State Teachers College at St. Cloud, MN.

On September 16, 1972, Bob was united in marriage to Delores Smakel Barthelman in Newton.

Bob was a teacher, having taught at International Falls, MN; and Brainerd, MN. In the 1970's Bob was an orderly at Embassy Manor.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, the VFW Post 1655, having served in the Navy as a medical corpsman attached to the Marines during the 22 months spent at Guadalcanal during WWII.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, of Newton; three sons, Rex, of Somerset, WI, Kent, of Rochester, MN, and John, of Pequot Lake, MN; three step-sons, Ronald Barthelman, Indianapolis, IN, Kenny Barthelman, Wichita, KS, and Randy Barthelman, Seattle, WA; one daughter, Bobbie Lee, Mrs. Jim Debros, St. Cloud, MN; one step-daughter, Deb Blair, Lookout Mountain, GA; nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; and a sister Dorothy, Mrs. Vance Koerner, of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.
