Services Held For Laura Munn

Laura Munn, 90, of Grundy Center, passed away Friday, August 24, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 27, at 10:30 a.m. at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with Rev. Phil and Rev. Louise Rieman officiating.

Casket bearers were Jay Miller, Bart Stoner, Howard Sheller, David Munn, Don Davidson and Roger Davidson.

Interment was in Sheller Cemetery, rural Grundy Center.

Laura I. Munn, daughter of Daniel and Emma Conkel Burkett, was born December 28, 1899, in McBain, MI, where she grew up and was educated.

On June 30, 1923, Laura was united in marriage to Gerald Munn in Lansing, MI, where they made their home for 48 years. They then moved to Grundy Center where they have lived for the past 19 years.

Laura was a charter member of the Church of the Brethren in Lansing, MI, and then became a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren. She was a foster parent for over 20 years, caring for some 35 children in her home over the years.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

Surviving her are her husband, Gerald, Grundy Center; one son, Donald and wife Gloria of Howe, IN; one daughter, Doris, Mrs. Victor Davidson, of Grundy Center; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels FUuneral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
