Bertha Boven Rites Are Held
Bertha Boven, 94, of Grundy Center, passed away Thursday, August 23, at Parkview Manor in Reinbeck.
Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center on Saturday, August 25, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiating.
Casket bearers were Ivan Arends, David McRaith, Jerry Freeseman, Mark Dressel, David Freeseman and Marvin Freeseman.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.
Bertha Boven, daughter of Dick and Epkea Bruns Beekmann, was born July 8, 1896, in Crooks Township near Renville, MN, where she grew up and was educated.
On December 7, 1927, Bertha was united in marriage to Dirk H. Boven at her home in Renville, MN. They farmed in Grundy county until 1957, when they moved to Grundy Center.
In February, 1990, Bertha moved to the Hospitality Room in the Long Term Care Unit at Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, where she lived until being transferred to Parkview Manor Nursing home in Reinbeck on August 5.
Bertha was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Grundy Center, and of the Gold Circle of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed crocheting and sewing for her grandchildren.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Dirk in 1958; one daughter, Marjorie Arends; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; her parents; three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving her are two daughters, Emma, Mrs. Edward Rewerts of Darwin, MN, and Luella, Mrs. Melvin Freeseman, of Parkersburg; 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Arbie Allen of Renville, MN.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the arrangements.
