Rites Held For Fred Kalkwarf
Fredrick Kalkwarf, 80, of Parkersburg, passed away on Saturday, June 16, at the Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at the Hope Reformed Church in Parkersburg with Rev. Mark E. Nieuwsma officiating.
Casket bearers were John F. Muller, Elmer Muller, Harvey Muller, Clarence Muller, Harold Kalkwarf and John Kalkwarf.
Organist was Mrs. Cathy Myers and the user was Mel Bakker. Mrs. Lena Escher and Mrs. Ruth Haan were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Holland Cemetery.
Fredrick Kalkwarf, son of John and Frauke Kleege Kalkwarf, was born July 26, 1909, in rural Parkersburg. He grew up and attended school in Parkersburg.
On February 2, 1932, Fred was united in marriage to Wilma Kessler in Holland.
Fred worked at various jobs in the Grundy Center and Wellsburg areas for a time before moving to Parkersburg, where he was employed by Wagner Manufacturing for a number of years. He then worked at Chamberlain Manufacturing in Waterloo for over 25 years, retiring in 1974.
Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most recently, a memorable trip to California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Wilma; four sisters, Lena Jurgens, Dena Muller, Elsena Wilkens, and Florence Muller; three brothers, John, Ernest and Henry; and one infant brother.
Fred is survived by two daughters, Carolyn, Mrs. Sanford Lewis, Tripoli, and Doris, Mrs. Robert Carlson, Cedar Falls; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gertie Kalkwarf, of Parkersburg.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
