Rites Held For Duane Meester
Duane Meester, 57, of Grundy Center, passed away Sunday, April 1, at Parkview Gardens Manor in Waterloo, of natural causes.
Funeral services were held at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center on Wednesday, April 4, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated.
Casket bearers were Norman Van Deest, Larry Harrenstein, Jay Flater, Luverne Hawn, Jay Meester and Jack Flater.
Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.
Duane Arthur Meester, son of Daniel A. and Justina Henze Meester, was born November 6, 1932, in Grundy County. He grew up and was educated in Grundy county. He attended Grundy Center High School, graduating in 1952.
He worked for Firestone in Grundy Center for a time, and then for John Deere as a machinist for 32 years, retiring in 1987.
Duane enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Duane is survived by step-mother Ivadell Meester of Welsaco, TX; one brother, James Meester, Grundy Center; three sisters, Lorene Adkins of Naples, Italy, Mary Jo, Mrs. Roger Elmore, Kandern, Germany, and Kathryn, Mrs. Dennis Johnson of Parkersburg; two step-brothers, Gene Shaw of Lancaster, PA, and Jim Shaw, Walnut Creek, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
