Services Held For Verda Lau

Verda Levay Lau, 80, of Denver, CO, passed away Thursday, March 8, at the Denver General Hospital, of cancer.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, at the United Methodist Church in Gladbrook. Rev. Steve Williams officiated.

Casket bearers were Steve Lau, Delbert White, Erroll Allen, Curtis Ohrt, Elmer Flatterich and Dick Bruene.

Burial was in the Sheller Cemetery east of Eldora.

Verda Levay Lau, the daughter of Richard and Cora Strickler Lau, was born November 3, 1909, in Whitten. She graduated from Whitten High School in 1927.

Verda was employed in Iowa Falls and Des Moines before moving to Denver in 1942, where she was employed at an ammunition plant and then later at Sears in the credit office, retiring in 1975.

Verda was a member of the Gladbrook United Methodist Church, a former member of the Grundy county 4-H, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Denver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Frank, and a sister Marie.

She is survived by a brother, Ernest Lau, of Gladbrook; two sisters, Elsie Carter, of Eldora and Rose Kuhet, Wheat Ridge, CO; and by several nieces and nephews.

The Goettsch-Perrin Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

A memorial fund has been established.
