Rites Held For Melvin Hall Sr.

Melvin Hall Sr., 69, of Cedar Falls, passed away Sunday, March 4, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Mitchell, SD, of cancer.

Funeral services were held at the First Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Falls, on March 7, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Fred Morrison officiated. He was assisted by Pastor Lyle Howard of Faith Home Chapel, Mitchell, SD.

Don Renberg sang "Does Jesus Care?" Don and Linda Renberg sang "It Will Be Worth It All." They were accompanied by Linda Nelson, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Helen Kruger, Ruth Wright, Melvin Hall, Jr., Loren Hall and Kenneth Hall.

Herbert Bosley and Ron Michaelsen were ushers. Alena Smith and DeLila Hall were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Melvin Lee Hall, Sr. was born December 23, 1920, at Griswold, to Ernest and Mable Doll Hall.

Melvin married Dorothea King on January 20, 1941, and after moving several times they settled in the rural Cedar Falls area near Dike. There she found work at Sartori Memorial Hospital and he worked as a farmhand on Ralph Thuesen's farm for 39 years, retiring in the summer of 1989. Dorothea passed away January 28, 1986.

On August 30, 1986, Melvin was married to Mary E. Renberg at Mitchell, SD. For three years they lived near Cedar Falls and then moved to Mitchell, SD.

He was a member of the North Cedar Church of the Nazarene, Cedar Falls, prior to his move to South Dakota where he was a member of Faith Home Chapel in Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother; wife Dorothea; two daughters, Marjorie and Carolyn; a brother Ross; and a grandson.

He is survived by his second wife, Mary E. Renberg Hall; two daughters: Helen Kruger of Hartington, NE, and Mrs. Darrell (Ruth) Wright of Waterloo; three sons, Melvin Jr. of Glendale, AZ, Loren of Cedar Falls, and Kenneth of rural Dike; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by five step-children; Mrs. Paul (Norma) Williams, Mrs. Tim (Linda) Nelson, Don Renberg, all of Mitchell, SD, Mrs. Tom (Inez) Cohu of Blue Springs, MO, and Steve Renberg of Thornton, CO; and 15 step-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Donald of Mitchell, SD, and Byron "Ray" of Cedar Falls; and four sisters: Mrs. Ken (Francis) Renwald of Wittman, AZ, Mrs. William (Ethel) Wellman of Orchard, NE, Mrs. Clifford (Elvina) Johnson of St. Petersburg, FL, and Mrs. John (Bonnie) Spica of Kentwood, MI.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
