Rites Held For D. McMartin

Funeral services for Dorothy M. McMartin, 89, of Conrad were held on Tuesday, January 16, 1990, at Beaman United Methodist Church. Rev. Harold Schirm officiated. The organist was Leonard Klinefelter.

Casket bearers were Brian deSilva, Bruce deSilva, Brent deSilva, Bradd McMartin, DeeGene McMartin and Darell McMartin.

Mary Stephenson and Virginia Sanderson were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Beaman, IA.

Dorothy McMartin was born on July 13, 1900, in Vienna Township, Marshall County, IA, the daughter of Guy H. and Grace I. Evans Stull. She died Friday, January 12 at Oakview Nursing Home, Conrad, where she had resided for the past year and a half.

She graduated from Beaman High School in 1919 and attended two years at Grinnell College.

On February 20, 1923, she was united in marriage to Donald H. McMartin in rural Green Mountain, Marshall County.

She resided in Beaman since 1955 and in the Beaman area all her married life.

Dorothy attended the United Methodist Church, Beaman. She was a charter member of Weatherman-Walter American Legion Auxiliary Unit #131, Beaman, of which she held many offices at the local and county level. She was also a member of the White Shrine, Marshalltown and had been a member of St. Elmo Chapter O.E.S. #398, Conrad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 7, 1977; and her brother Martin Stull on September 4, 1970.

She is survived by two sons: R. Dean McMartin of Beaman and Hume E. McMartin of Granite Falls, WA; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Johnston Funeral Home of Conrad was in charge of the arrangements.
