Rites Held For George Rohwer

Funeral services were held for George J. Rohwer on Wednesday, January 19, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Grundy Center, IA. Pastor D. Ward Young officiated.

The congregation sang "Blessed Assurance" and "Sweet Hour of Prayer." The organist was Mrs. Marcia Heronimus, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Erwin Haren, Bill Ragsdale, Bill Zink, Jerry Zehr, Wayne Wiltfang and Dean Schultz.

Donald Palmer and Marlyn Peters were ushers. Shirley Peters and Eileen Schultz were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, IA.

George John Rohwer was born November 6, 1907 in Grundy County, Iowa, the son of John and Anna Reimers Rohwer. He passed away Sunday, January 14, 1990 at his home in Grundy Center, Iowa, having attained the age of 82 years, 2 months, and 8 days.

George moved as a boy to Grundy Center and attended Grundy Center Schools. In 1927 he moved to his farm west of town. He was united in marriage to Anedra Rowe on July 19, 1941 in Princeton, Missouri. He retired and moved to Grundy Center in 1975. George enjoyed traveling and gardening, especially his many rose bushes. He was a 50-year member of the Farm Bureau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Albert and Harvey; and two sisters, Lizzie Rohwer and Minnie Wood.

Surviving him are his wife, Anedra of Grundy Center; two sisters, Esther Rohwer of Conrad, Iowa and Olga Kitzman of Beaman, Iowa.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
