Harold "Red" Jones Is Car Crash Victim

Harold "Red" Jones, 70, of Redlands, CA, and formerly of Grundy Center, died Monday, January 1, in Loma Lind, CA, as a result of an automobile accident.

Funeral services are pending at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center.

Services For Harold Jones Wednesday

Funeral services for Harold "Red" Jones, age 70, of Redlands, CA, and formerly of Grundy Center, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

A complete obituary will follow in next week's paper.

Services Held For Harold "Red" Jones

Harold "Red" Jones, 70, of Redlands, CA, formerly of Grundy Center, passed away January 1, 1990, at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA. He suffered a fatal heart attack as a result of an automobile accident on December 23rd.

Funeral services for Harold were held on Monday, January 8th, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Redlands with Pastor Phillip Jones officiating. A medley of Harold's favorite songs was played on the piano by Robert Silverman. Marilyn Cotton sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and Pastor Marvin Ponder sang "Goin' Home." They sang a duet, "We Had This Moment Today." Following the 7:00 p.m. services, Harold's friends gathered in his home for a time of fellowship and remembrance.

Services were also held at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral home in Grundy Center on Wednesday, January 10th, at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Calvin Vanderwerf officiating. Craig DeBerg sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden." He was accompanied by Dorothea Appel who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Mr. Jones' five nephews, James, William, Robert, Donald, and Jerry Jones and Bill Pierce, Jon Ross, and Dr. D. J. Ross.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center.

Harold William Jones, son of Tracy and Ethel Thompson Jones, was born on January 15, 1919, on a farm in Morrison, IA. He grew up on the farm, attended rural school grades one through eight and graduated from Grundy Center High School with honors.

In 1948, he was united in marriage to Avis Smith. Harold and Avis farmed in Grundy county until 1960 when they moved to Rialto, CA, where Harold worked as a salesman with Prudential Insurance Co., Investor's Diversified Mutual Funds, and from 1970 to the present time with Teachers Management and Investment Corporation as an investment analyst. They moved to Redlands, CA, in 1974.

Preceding Harold in death were his parents, Tracy and Ethel, a stillborn son, Harold William, a brother, Delbert; and a sister, Hazel Frikken.

He is survived by his wife, Avis; two daughters, Mrs. Avis (Penny) Fike and Mrs. Angela Pfeiffer; and three grandchildren, Kristi Michelle, Matthew, and Christopher, all of California. He is also survived by two brothers, Roscoe and Ralph Jones, both of Reinbeck, IA; and by many nieces and nephews.
