Marian T. Sternhagen Services Held

Marian Theresa Sternhagen was born January 8, 1926, in Two Rivers, WI, the daughter of Andrew and Mary Lappe Hillebrand. She passed away Thursday, January 4, 1990, at Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls, IA, having attained the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 27 days.

Marian grew up in Dyersville, IA. She was united in marriage to Merlin William Sternhagen on January 22, 1947, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cascade, IA. Thirteen children were born to this union: Marvin, Ruth Ann, Gerald, Joan, Elaine, Joe, Donna, Velma, Linda, Roger, Barbara, Ralph, and Debbie.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers; two sisters; and one grandchild, Tiffany Sternhagen.

She is survived by her husband Merlin of Holland, IA; five sons; Marvin of Holland, IA, Gerald of Green Mountain, IA; Joe of Beaman, IA, Roger and Ralph, both of Grundy Center, IA; eight daughters: Ruth Ann Sternhagen, Elaine (Mrs. Mike) Costello, Donna Sternhagen, Velma (Mrs. Robert) Olsen, Debbie Sternhagen, all of Grundy Center, IA, Joan Sternhagen of West Des Moines, IA, Linda (Mrs. Bill) Harrington of Des Moines, IA, and Barbara (Mrs. Wendell) Eiklenborg of Florissant, MO; 19 grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Hillebrand of Worthington, IA; and two sisters, Mrs. Germaine Feltes of Cascade, IA, and Mrs. Marcella Pline of Epworth, IA.

Funeral services for Mrs. Sternhagen were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Grundy Center, on Saturday, January 6, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. Fr. Everett Frese officiated.

Mr. Don Osterhaus sang "On Eagles Wings," "The Bread of Life" and "Prayer of St. Francis." He was accompanied by Rita Fisher, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Marvin Sternhagen, Gerald Sternhagen, Joe Sternhagen, Roger Sternhagen, Ralph Sternhagen and Michael Costello.

George Lang and Joe Hemrich were ushers. Margaret Meyer and Helen Huisman were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Grundy Center.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
