Mary Dreesman Rites Are Held

Funeral services for Mary Dreesman were held at the Holland Christian Reformed Church, Holland, on Tuesday, January 9, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Loren J. Kotman officiated.

Mr. Craig DeBerg sang "The King Is Coming" and "He Touched Me." He was accompanied by Beulah Graves, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Mike Aalfs, Terry Aalfs, Vince Werkman, Larry Dreesman, Lance Dreesman, Gordon Dreesman and Brent Werkman.

Edwin Brower and William Hinders were ushers. Mrs. Verlyn Henze and Mrs. Ethel Schoolman were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Holland Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, Holland.

Mary Katherine Dreesman was born August 16, 1893, in Sibley, IA, the daughter of Franz and Maria Kordes Venenga. She passed away Friday, January 5, 1990, at Long Term Care, Grundy County Memorial Hospital, Grundy Center, IA, having attained the age of 96 years, 4 months, and 20 days.

Mary grew up and was educated in Sibley, IA. She moved with her parents as a young girl to Holland, IA. For several years she worked at Schneiderman's Cafe in Holland. On February 21, 1912, Mary was united in marriage to Tom Dreesman at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, IA. Together, Mary and Tom farmed near Holland and Grundy Center for over 30 years. They retired to Holland in 1942.

Mary was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church and of the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing and canning, and always had a large garden.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Tom on October 25, 1971; 1 son, Clarence; 2 sisters; and 3 brothers.

She is survived by 3 sons; Edwin of Dike, IA, Glenn, and Lloyd, both of Grundy Center, IA; 3 daughters: Leona (Mrs. Leon) Geosling of Kirksville, MO, Arvilla (Mrs. Harm) Aalfs of Holland, IA, and Lois (Mrs. Jake) Werkman of Cedar Falls, IA; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
