Rites Held For Ella Schildroth

Funeral services for Ella Schildroth were held at the First Baptist Church, Grundy Center, on Wednesday, January 10, 1990, at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Gary W. Candlish officiated.

Mr. Don Schildroth sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Because He Lives." He was accompanied by Joyce Maddux, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Everett Wilson, Ray Launstein, Charles Smoldt, Willis Grimmius, Kenneth Hohenberger and Mike Szegda.

Jim Heeren and Bruce Hayes were ushers. Louise Grimmius and Lucille Launstein were in charge of floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Ella Schildroth was born April 14, 1892, in Grundy County, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Carsten and Jane Shoemaker Groth. She passed away Thursday, January 4, 1990, at the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center, Iowa, having attained the age of 97 years, 8 months, and 21 days.

Ella moved with her family as a young child to Reinbeck. She attended Reinbeck schools, graduating from Reinbeck High School in 1911. On February 25, 1914, Ella was united in marriage to Reuben Schildroth. They farmed east of Reinbeck until March 1, 1918, when they moved to their farm in Washington Township. In November of 1954 they retired and moved to their home in Grundy Center.

Ella joined the membership of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center in July of 1938. She loved boys and girls and for several years she taught in the Primary Department of the Sunday School. She was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class and of the Mission Union. She was faithful in attending her church until her health no longer permitted it. In 1986 she was recognized as the Mother-of-the-Year at the church Mother/Daughter banquet. Ella loved to garden and work with her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in December of 1961; one son, Marvin in September of 1967; 5 sisters; and 1 brother.

She is survived by five children; Iva Schildroth, Ronald Schildroth and wife Elizabeth, and Rachel Schildroth, of Grundy Center, Iowa, John Schildroth and wife Verna of Hudson, Iowa, and Arlene Schildroth of Waterloo, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
