Marilyn Smith Rites Are Held

Marilyn J. Smith, 47, of Grundy Center, passed away Wednesday, December 27, at Covenant Medical Center on Kimball in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the Holland Christian Reformed Church in Holland on Saturday, December 30, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Loren J. Kotman officiated.

Dan Blythe and Lori Schoolman sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Softly and Tenderly." They were accompanied by Marlys Vogt, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Casket bearers were Roger Hook, Dennis Hook, Sherman Hook, Larry Smith, Henry Dingle and Spencer Slifer.

Edward Schoolman and Edwin Brower were the ushers. Mrs. Grace Heronimus and Mrs. Helen Meyer were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the church cemetery.

Marilyn Jean Smith, daughter of Alvin and Leola Hinders Hook, was born July 12, 1942, in Eldora. She grew up in Grundy county and graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1960.

For six years, Marilyn worked for Norwesco, Inc. in Grundy Center.

On August 12, 1966, Marilyn was united in marriage to Donald L. 'Tony' Smith at the Christian Reformed Church, Lincoln Center Township, Grundy county. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, where she was employed with Collins Radio for 10 years. In November of 1978, Marilyn and Tony moved back to Grundy Center, where she lived at the time of her death.

Marilyn was a member of the Holland Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed her flowers, and loved to cook and bake.

Marilyn is survived by her husband Donald, of Grundy Center; her parents Alvin and Leola Hook, of rural Grundy Center; and by one sister, Mrs. Allen (Paula) Cramer, of Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
