REINBECK - Dr. Wouter Hendrik Verduyn, 83, of Reinbeck, died May 2, 2015 at Sunrise Care Center, Traer.

He was born Oct. 12, 1931, in Hague, the Netherlands, son of Hendrik and Helena Pander Verduyn. He married Connie Sager on Sept. 24, 1964; they later divorced and then remarried on July 1, 2001.

Dr. Verduyn attended medical school in the Netherlands. He moved to Iowa in 1960 and did his internship in Des Moines and in 1961 started his family practice in Reinbeck. He spent from 1966 to 1967 doing a fellowship in Denver, Colo., and upon his return he started the rehabilitation program for head and spinal injuries at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.

Survived by his wife; five sons, Norbert (Terri) of Fargo, N.D., Jerome (Carolyn) of McMinnville, Ore., Sebastian and Brian, both of Des Moines, and Jeremy Miller-Verduyn of Waterloo; a daughter, Andrea Munoz of Des Moines; a son-in-law, Scott Jamieson of Cooper, Maine; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Bert of the Netherlands.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Henk; and a daughter, Lieselotte.

Celebration of Life services: 3 p.m. May 21 (note correct date of funeral) at United Methodist Church, Reinbeck. Dr. Verduyn donated his body to the University of Iowa for medical research.

Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
