Lifetime Conrad Man Dies At 87

William Daniel Schmidt, a lifetime resident of Conrad, died Saturday morning at the Conrad nursing home where he had been a resident for a number of months. He was 87 years old.

Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Johnston funeral home. Burial was in the Conrad cemetery. Death was due to advanced age. He had been in failing health for a number of years.

He was a painter and paper hanger during his active life.

He was born Oct. 6, 1878 in Conrad, a son of Martin and Christiana Schmidt. He was married to Emma L. Naumann on June 27, 1912, in Marshalltown.

Survivors include his widow; one son, Edward of Kansas City, Mo., one daughter, Mrs. Lou (Dorothy) Schweertman of Des Moines, one grandson and one niece, Mrs. Chris Sorensen of Albion.

W. Schmidt, 87, Dies At Oakview

William Daniel Schmidt, age 87, passed away at Oakview Nursing Home last Saturday morning.

Funeral services were held from the Johnston Funeral Home, Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Donald Shaw and Rev. R. O. Grote officiating. Russell Kruse sang two numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Vane Graham. Casketbearers were Richard Ballard, Dilman Daggett, Dr. Hesselhuis, Lee Long, Dean McMartin and Vance Rowlison.

Burial was made in the Conrad cemetery.

Mr. Schmidt, son of Martin and Christiana Schmidt, was born in Felix township, October 6, 1878. He was married to Emma Naumann on June 27, 1912, in Marshalltown. After living in the Marshalltown area, they moved to Conrad, where they have resided for 45 years, and where he followed the trade of painter and paper hanger.

Death came to him after intermittent periods of hospitalization over a period of the past three years.

Surviving are his wife, Emma; one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Schweertmann, of Des Moines; one son, Edward, of Kansas City, Mo.; one grandson; and one niece, Mrs. Chris Sorenson of Albion.
