Graveside Services For Charles Martin

Graveside services will be held this afternoon, Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Dike Elmwood cemetery for Charles Martin, former Dike business man and resident. The service will be at 3 o'clock.

Mr. Martin passed away in Linden, Iowa this past Monday morning.

Funeral services will be held in Linden this morning after which the body will be brought to the Dike cemetery for burial.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Carroll (June) Wander of Guntersville, Ala.; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Former Dike Resident Dies in Guthrie Center

Rev. Charles Flagler Martin was born in Flagler, Iowa on Feb. 7, 1885, the son of Maggie Cuthbert Martin and John Martin.

He died in the Guthrie County hospital, Guthrie Center, Iowa, on October 18, 1965. He had been hospitalized about 6 weeks but had been in failing health for several years.

He was survived by his wife, Hannah; one daughter, June (Mrs. Carrol) Wander of Gunsterville, Ala., one grandson, one great-grandson and one brother.

He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

Rev. Martin started in the ministry by preaching to youth groups when he was about 16 years of age. He attended Penn College in Oskaloosa, Iowa and in 1907-08 and '09 he attended the Central Holiness University, later called the John Fletcher School of Theology in Oskaloosa. His first parish was in Melbourne, Iowa in 1916. He later served in Chelsea, Fredericka, Mt. Auburn, Rockwell, Hartwick and Linden. He lived in Dike for a time about 1915 and again for a number of years in the early 1930's. He moved to Linden, Iowa in 1948 and was residing there when he passed away.
