Rev. Hesse Died In Texas; Heart Attack

Rev. R. E. Hesse who was pastor of St. Peter's church in German township, died quite suddenly in Texas. His body was sent here for burial. Services were Saturday in St. Peter's church.

Following his retirement as pastor at St. Peter's church, he and his wife moved to Ackley. They left for Texas a short time ago to remain until spring.

Surviving are the wife and two daughters.

Obituary

The Rev. Gerherd E. Hesse, son of the Rev. John D. Hesse and Marguerita Leckband Hesse, was born July 31, 1891, in Marcus, Cherokee county. In infancy he was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran church of Amherst township, where he was also confirmed at the age of 14. He graduated from Concordia College, St. Paul, and completed three years of seminary at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis in June 1916.

On June 6, 1917, he was married to Madeline K. Schultz of Marcus. After their marriage, he served in his first church, which was a mission church in Bremer. He became affiliated with the Evangelical and Reformed Church in July 1928, and served pastorates in the following churches: St. John's at Griswold together with a church in Victoria township; St. Peter's in German township.
