Emil Brandes Died Thursday

Emil Brandes, who had been a builder and contractor in Grundy county many years, died in the Grundy hospital at six o'clock Thursday evening. He had been a patient in the hospital 15 hours. He was afflicted with asthma for several years. He was 73 years old.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 Monday forenoon at the American Lutheran church in Grundy Center. The service was conducted by the Lutheran pastor, Rev. Biedermann. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Was Born in Germany
Mr. Brandes was born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, April 28, 1892. He grew up in Germany and was married there February 23, 1923, to Johanna Assing. The couple lived in Germany until 1929, when they came to America and located in Wellsburg, where they resided until 1956 when they moved to Grundy Center where they built a home and lived here continually. Mr. Brandes was a good tradesman and he built many fine homes and other buildings in the county during the many years that he followed his trade. He had to give up his work a few years ago because of his poor health.

Surviving are the wife and three daughters: Mrs. Johanna Westerhausen, Des Moines, Mrs. Maurice Gast, Eldora, and Mrs. David Hamilton, Golden, Colorado. There are 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters who died in Germany.
