M. Merritt Died At Nursing Home

Miss Mertie Merritt died Monday afternoon at the Countryside Nursing Home, where she had been a patient for some time. She met with an accident at her farm home ten years ago and suffered a broken hip, from which she never fully recovered. She spent the last ten years of her life in a hospital or nursing home. She was 82 years old last May.

Miss Merritt came from one of the leading families in Grundy county. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Merritt. Their home was about 3 miles northwest of Grundy Center, where the father of the family acquired several farms. Miss Merritt was born on one of the Merritt farms and resided there all of her life, excepting the late years during which she was required to be in a hospital or a nursing home. She was one of five children in the Merritt family, two daughters and three sons. The one sister, Mrs. Alice M. Miles form Fort Rock, Oregon, survives. The sons of the family were Arthur, Earl and Ernest. The youngest, Ernest, lived with his sister on the home farm until he died, May 1947. Neither of the two ever married. Arthur and Earl resided on Grundy county farms during their lifetime.

Surviving aside from the sister are 9 nieces and nephews.

The body was taken from the nursing home to the Ferree funeral home where funeral arrangements were made.

Services will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. Rev. J. C. Ford will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.
