W. H. Bakker Dies At Sartori Hospital

W. H. Bakker, retired farmer, passed away at the Sartori hospital in Cedar Falls on Tuesday morning, Aug. 24, at about 8:00 a.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church on Friday, Aug. 27 at 1:30 p.m. Engelkes Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Plans were being made to have the body lie in state at the Dike Funeral Chapel from 12:00 Wed. noon to Friday at 11 a.m. at which time it will be taken to the Lincoln Center church.

Obituary of W. H. Bakker

Funeral services were held at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed church last Friday at 1:30 for W. H. Bakker. Burial was in the Lincoln township cemetery.

Walter H. Bakker, son of Harm and Pearl Bakker was born September 17, 1879 in Ogle county, Ill. and passed away Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. at the Sartori hospital in Cedar Falls at the age of 85 years, eleven months and seven days.

He moved to Iowa with his parents when he was three years old. He was married to Tillie Dieken, January 9, 1907 in Colfax township. They farmed in Lincoln township until retiring to Grundy Center 26 years ago. He suffered a stroke in May of 1958 after which they moved to Dike in Nov. of 1958.

He was always active in church and community affairs. He served on the consistory of the church for forty years. He was one of the first directors of the Iowa Savings bank in Dike.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters Mrs. George (Pearl) Dudden, Mrs. Theodore (Emma) Gerdes, Mrs. Joe (Catherine) DeBerg, all of Dike and Mrs. Harvey (Lillian) Tapper of Grundy Center; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

Out of state relatives attending the funeral services were from Rochester and Stewartsville, Minn., Shannon and Forreston, Ill. and Chippewa Falls, Wis.
