Mr. Gardner was born at Packwood, Iowa, Nov. 4, 1901, and he grew up there. On April 16, 1924, Roy Gardner and Gladys Cles were married at Ottumwa, Iowa. Following his marriage he began employment in the J.C. Penney store at Cedar Rapids and Muscatine until 1932, when he was named manager of the J.C. Penney store in Grundy Center.
