Mrs. Conrad Flater Died Suddenly In A Waterloo Store
Mrs. Conrad Flater died very suddenly at 4:30 Thursday afternoon while she was in the McGregor furniture store in Waterloo. A doctor happened to be near Mrs. Flater when she was stricken, but he was unable to save her life. Her husband had left her only a few moments before to go to another store nearby. News of her death came as a severe shock to members of her family and to her many friends.
The body was brought to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center, where funeral arrangements were made. Services were at 1:30 Monday afternoon at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer officiated at the service. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. She was 51 years old.
Mrs. Flater was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Weseman. She was born on a Lincoln township farm August 29, 1913, and she grew up there.
Ellen Weseman and Conrad Flater were married August 22, 1933. They began life together on a Lincoln township farm, and that remained their home continually.
Surviving are the husband; one daughter, Doris Ann, supervisor of nursing at Allen Memorial hospital, Waterloo; one son, Howard, Kankakee, Ill.; three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was the only member of the family of Mr. and Mrs. Claus Weseman.
Mrs. Flater had been active in 4-H work and other agricultural activities over the county and was held in high esteem by all those with whom she came in contact.
