Henry Appel Died In Grundy Hospital

Henry L. Appel, a lifetime resident of Grundy County, died in the Grundy hospital Thursday morning. He had been a patient there for eight days. He was 66 years old. The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home where arrangements for funeral services were made.

The service was Saturday afternoon at the funeral home. It was conducted by Rev. Harold Sparks, pastor of the Grundy Center Methodist church. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Mr. Appel was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Appel, early residents of Washington township, Grundy county. He grew up on the farm. He was born Dec. 22, 1898.

On Dec. 31, 1929, Henry Appel and Laura Payne were married at Schaller, Iowa. They began their married life together on the Appel farm 2 1/2 miles east and a half mile south of Grundy Center. In November 1961 Mr. and Mrs. Appel retired from the farm and moved to Grundy Center where they since resided. Retirement was due to failing health.

Surviving are the wife; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Drake and Mrs. Mary Jans from Reinbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marvin.
