Mrs. John Clark Died in Hospital
Mrs. John Clark died at the Grundy hospital on March 23rd. She was 83 years old and had resided in Grundy county all of her life.
The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home, where services will be at 1:30 Friday afternoon. The service will be conducted by Rev. Sparks, pastor of the Grundy Methodist church. Burial will be in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Mrs. Clark's maiden name was Winifred Kelly. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Kelly, pioneer residents of Grundy county. She graduated from the Grundy Center high school in 1899, and taught in rural schools in Grundy county 4 years.
On March 19, 1902, Winnifred Kelly and John Clark were married at the bride's home in Grundy Center. During the first three years of their married life they resided on a farm near Grundy Center. Sixty years ago they moved to Grundy Center, where they had since resided. Last summer Mr. and Mrs. Clark moved into the Countryside Nursing Home, where they lived until recently, when Mrs. Clark was admitted to the hospital. Their 63rd wedding anniversary was on the 19th of this month.
Mrs. Clark was a licensed practical nurse and operated a nursing home for 14 years. She was assisted by her husband in their home.
After the Grundy County Memorial Hospital began operation in 1950 they worked there assisting with patients and also did private nursing in many homes.
They were the parents of five children: one daughter, Mrs. Naomi Devendork, Des Moines, and four sons: Marvin and George of Waterloo; Delbert and Lucius of Grundy Center. They have 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Other surviving members of the family in addition to the children and grandchildren are the husband, a brother Logan Kelly, Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Fritzel, Grundy Center.
Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.
