Old Resident At Dike Dies At An Advanced Age

Jess Ahrends died at his home at Dike at 1:30 Wednesday morning of old age. He was 85 years old. He came to Grundy county fifty years ago and resided here continually.

Funeral services will be held at the home on Friday and later at the Danish Lutheran church at Fredsville with Rev. Hogan Nelson officiating. Burial will be in the Fredsville cemetery.

Mr. Ahrends was born in Denmark August 13th, 1848. He was married to Mary Kloster in Denmark May 30th, 1874. In 1883 Mr. Ahrends came to this country and located on a farm a short distance west of Dike. His wife and three children joined him here a year later. Mr. Ahrends remained on the farm until twenty years ago when he and his family moved to Dike where they have since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Ahrends celebrated their 50th anniversary on the 30th of May.

Surviving relatives are the wife, 2 sons and one daughter. The sons are Nels and Dan who live at Dike. The daughter Mrs. Thoe. Juel lives in Cedar Falls.
