Fred R. Vinton, Former Whitten Man, Died in Texas

Fred R. Vinton Jr., who spent most of his life in Whitten, died in Dallas, Texas, last Wednesday. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred R. Vinton, and was born Aug 9, 1881, in Grundy county at the Landes homestead just north of the Benson cemetery. He was united in marriage to Maud Hanson and to this union three children were born, Cecil of Hampton, Iowa, and Odie and Lucile, who died in infancy. His wife and his father also preceded him in death. Those who survive are his son, Cecil, of Hampton, his mother, Mrs. Lizzie Pierrell, and two half-brothers, Harrison and Glen Pierrell, of Chicago.

Mr. Vinton spent most of his life in Whitten. For several years he owned and operated the barber shop there. He built the present drug store building, and for a number of years he owned and operated the drug store, known as the Vinton Drug Company. After selling the drug store the family moved to Waterloo and later to Dallas, Tex., where he was manager of a hotel.

He was married to Maude Hanson in 1899 and to this union three children were born, Odie and Lucile who passed away in childhood and Cecil, now living at Hampton. His wife and companion died at Whitten in 1910.

He was later married to Miss Eva Allen of Iowa Falls, in 1912. She preceded him in death in 1932.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Whitten Thursday afternoon, May 25, and was conducted by Rev. E. E. Briggs of Whitten, assisted by Rev. Shoemaker. Burial was at Benson cemetery.
