Died At Age Of 91
Henry Olthoff, Sr. a pioneer resident of Grundy county died at the home of his son Henry in Shiloh township at 10:30 Sunday forenoon. Mr. Olthoff was sick for a short time only with lung trouble and this and his advanced age was the cause of his death. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church of Shiloh township beginning at one o'clock Thursday.
Had Mr. Olthoff lived until the 23rd of next September he would have been 92 years old. Very few men are now living in this county who have had as many birthdays as he.
Mr. Olthoff was born in Eastfriesland, Germany. Forty-four years ago this spring he came to this county and located on the farm in Shiloh township on which he died. He bought an 80 acre farm at that time for $14.00 an acre. Later he bought more of Grundy county land and during his lifetime he accumulated a very comfortable estate. Mr. Olthoff's wife died twenty-three years ago. Since that time he made his home constantly with his son Henry.
Mr. Olthoff is survived by five children, all of whom are here to attend the funeral. The children are J. H. Olthoff of Independence, Kansas, Mrs. Claas Miller, Mrs. Anton Olthoff of Donovan, Nebr., Henry of this county and Mrs. C. Lammers of Wright county.
