Mother of Large Family Died Here Last Saturday

Mrs. John Kruse Passed Away Following A Stroke Of Paralysis

Was Mother of Twelve

She Had Been a Resident of Grundy County During Past Forty-Four Years

Mrs. John Kruse died at her home in Grundy Center last Saturday evening following a stroke of apoplexy a few days before. She never regained consciousness from the time she was stricken. Mrs. Kruse was 82 years old. She had made her home in this county continually during the past forty-four years. She was the mother of twelve children. The husband and eight of the children survive. Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church of Colfax township Tuesday where interment was made.

Obituary
Mrs. Grietje Kruse, nee Buskohl, was born in Waringsfehn, Germany, on the 8th day of December, 1845. She came to this country in 1868 and made Forreston the objective of her journey, where friends were awaiting her. A year later she was joined in marriage to Mr. John Kruse. This union was blessed with twelve children, four of whom have preceded her in death. In 1883 they left Forreston and came to Grundy county, Iowa, occupying the farm in Colfax township which they had purchased and where they continued to live until 1910, when they moved to Grundy Center.

Mrs. Kruse although the mother of a large family always enjoyed the best of health and it was not until a few weeks previous to her death that symptoms of an alarming character became manifest resulting in apoplexy Tuesday, Jan. 18th, and on Saturday morning, the 22nd, her spirit left her earthly tabernacle.

Mrs. Kruse was a beautiful type of christian mother, being of a quiet, loving disposition, which made her many friends. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged husband, her sons, Harm, Aike, Conrad, John; her four daughters, Jennie, who is at home, Mrs. John C. Abels, Mrs. Dick Harberts, Mrs. Geo. Graves; 17 grandchildren, one brother, Wessel Buskohl of Parkersburg, one sister, Mrs. Dan Plum of Mt. Morris, Ill., and a host of other relatives and friends.

The burial took place on Tuesday of this week. The sons and sons-in-law acted as pallbearers. A short service was held in the home and the main services were held in the Colfax Presbyterian church of which she was a member and a large host of friends viewed her remains. Her pastor, Rev. J. E. Drake, officiated, assisted by Rev. H. F. Sinning and Rev. M. Weeldreyer.
