Mrs. W. H. Clarke died Wednesday

Mary Barron was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth Barron. She was born in Somerset County, Pa., March 30, 1880, and passed away Feb. 27 [sic], 1951 at the age of 70 years, 10 months and 8 days. She had been in failing health the last few months and spent the past 8 weeks in the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown.

She was one of a family of 14 children. Her father, mother, 8 brothers and 3 sisters have preceded her in death.

When a young lady of 17 years she came to Iowa and made her home with her brother Isaac on a farm in Melrose township and later moved to a farm in Felix township with her brother.

She was baptised in the Iowa river near Union, Ia., joining the church of Christ east of Whitten. Her membership was later transferred to the Methodist church at Conrad.

On Jan. 6, 1904, she was united in marriage to William H. Clarke in Felix township. After their marriage they remained for 2 years, moving to Rothsay, Minn., where they spent 5 years. They later moved to a farm near Stout, for 2 years. In 1913 they moved to their present home in Felix township where the remainder of her life was spent. To this union were born 6 children: Charles R. of Conrad, Mrs. Irene Stanton of Brownsdale, Minn., Mae, Leonard A., Paul W., all at home, and Mrs. Hazel Weatherly of Marshalltown.

Mrs. Clarke was a charter member of the WSCS of the Conrad Methodist church; a member of the Benson Cemetery Society; a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Conrad, and a member of the Thursday Club.

She was a kind, loving and devoted mother, giving of her time and service for her home and family. She was a great lover of the out-of-doors and found her greatest enjoyment among her flowers and in the garden.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Clarke; six children, five grandchildren, Dona Lee Clarke of Conrad; Roger, Carol and Stanley Stanton of Brownsdale, Minn.; and Diane Kay Weatherly of Marshalltown. She is also survived by two brothers, Austin and Harvey Barron of Youngwood, Pa.; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Conrad Methodist church at 1:30 p.m., preceded by a a short prayer service at the home. The pastor, Rev. W. G. Warren in charge. Music was furnished by Mrs. Grant Frier, soloist, with Evelyn Stevens accompanying. Pallbearers were: Clarence Hogle, Russell Eggleston, Lawrence Kline, Mark Ralston, Ben Stewart and Conrad Biesnecker. Flower bearers were: Mrs. Floyd Hartly of Marshalltown, Mrs. Russell Eggleston, Mrs. Clarence Hogle and Mrs. Ben Stewart. Burial was in the Benson cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. Glen Stanton, Roger, Carol and Stanley of Brownsdale, Minn.; Harold Barron of Maynard, Minn.; Vean Barron of Lewistown, Mo.; A. C. Stice of Quincy, Ill.; D. Frank Allen of Iowa Falls; and many other friends and relatives from surrounding towns.
