Will Getting Died Sunday

Will Getting, who was born on a farm in Colfax township 78 years ago, died at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Perrin Convalescent Home at New Hartford. Advanced age and complications were the cause of his death. He had suffered two strokes during the past two years.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at one o'clock at the Engelkes Funeral home and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Rev. George Swalve officiated at the services. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Will Getting was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Getting. He was born January 31, 1872. He grew up on a farm in Colfax township and attended school there. On February 21, 1894, Will Getting and Margaret Snittjer were married. The wife died June 23, 1945. They spent their entire married life on the farm. They resided on a Colfax township farm excepting four years when they lived near Little Rock and three years in South Dakota. Much of the time since the death of his wife he made his home with his children. He entered the convalescent home on July 25th of this year.

Surviving are two daughters and one son. The daughters are Mrs. Sam Ross, Wellsburg, and Mrs. Jerry Peters, Holland. The son Fred F. Getting, lives in Grundy Center. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One son, Sam, was killed in 1923 when he fell from a load of hay.

Other surviving relatives are two brothers, Helmut Getting, Parkersburg, and Fred F. Getting, Wellsburg. There are three sisters, Mrs. Mary Johnson, Reading, Minn., Mrs. Jerry Lutterman, Wellsburg, and Mrs. George Hook, Holland.
